6th class blog- February

Welcome!  This is our sixth class blog entry for February. Our class has been getting up to a lot of activities. Here are some things we have been doing.

                HANDWRITING COMPETITION
Our class had a writing competition to see who would be entered into the An Post writing competition. We drafted and redrafted a diary entry about the 1916 rising. Our class winner was Naomi Adeniji .

                     DRAWING COMPETITION
Also to commemorate the 1916 rising,  all of the senior classes took part in the school drawing competition. Each class got to choose between a selection of buildings in Dublin to draw and colour such as the GPO, Bolands  Flour Mills, Kilmainham Jail and lots more. The winners were chosen by the teachers. The winner in 6th class was Excelle Okeke.

                                The Ceilí Mór
In February we started learning a dance for the Ceilí Mór held in March every year- a dance held in the school hall to raise money for Scoil Mhuire. Our dance is called the Bridge of Athlone. Learning it was a lot of fun. Come back next month to see how we got on!

                                      Cross country
On the last week of  February there was another cross country  race . Eight girls went to Corcaigh Park to represent  our class- Shaamina, Weronika, Excelle , Aoife, Natasha,  Kate, Abbie and Naomi. They did great and we earned a lot of points for our school.

                                      CHINA PROJECTS
In our class we did in groups of two projects on China. Each pair’s project was fantastic, filled with information on China. Fun fact for all of you : 2016 is the year of the monkey .

We are happy that it is finally Spring and the sun is finally out ! We can now enjoy  our break time out in the sun ! We had a great February. We will keep you updated on our next blog post.

6th Class Blog- January

Hello, welcome to our blog. We are 6th class Scoil Mhuire, Clondalkin. We are going to be talking about what we have been doing since we got back from the Christmas holidays. We hope you enjoy our blog for this month.

Operation Transformation
The whole school is doing Operation Transformation. Everyday , we run eight laps around our school yard after break. Sometimes , if it is raining outside we get to do Zumba in the classroom. We also have witnessed something shocking . CEREAL BARS!!! You probably think their no big deal but really they are very unhealthy and have two to four spoons of sugar in them.

World War Two
In history we are learning about World War Two. All of sixth class are finding World War Two very interesting and also horrible thinking of the concentration camps. We are also reading, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne which is linked to World War Two. So far we have read about Bruno and his sister Gretel moving to a new house far away from their  lovely home in Berlin. They have no choice because their Father is a German soilder. They really hate it and want to move back home to Berlin.

Table Quiz
The Credit Union table quiz was held on Friday, the 29th of January in the Red Cow Hotel. There are eight girls from 6th class at the quiz, two teams of four to be exact. The girls who went were; Abbey O’ Keeffe , Katie Flanagan , Rachael Condon , Caoimhe Ballesty , Molly Dunne , Weronika Borkowska ,Naomi Adeniji and Kate Whelan. They did really well and enjoyed the quiz.

Amazing Art
Recently, we have been painting art inspired by Gustav Klimpt and geometry. We painted our own version of The Tree Of Life by Gustav Klimpt. We painted with all different shades of gold and all of our favourite things painted on the branches. We have also been drawing geometric pictures with obtuse, acute and right angles and all different types of shapes. We were inspired by colourful images of geometry in pictures and on the internet.

We painted our own Tree of Life, just like Gustav Klimp, do you like them?

We used 2 D shapes, lines and angles that we were learning about in Maths to create our Geometric Art.

Magnificent Maths
In maths we have been learning how to draw different types of angles and quadrilaterals. We are getting  used to using protractors and how to measure angles. We are getting very good at measuring angles. We have also been learning currency exchange ,such as turning  foreign  currency into Euro and Euro into foreign currency.

Super Science
In science we have been learning about Gravity. We learned that Isaac Newton discovered gravity. Isaac Newton saw an apple fall from a tree and asked , ”why did it fall down instead of floating up?”. We also made parachutes in class. Everyone used plastic bags and string to make their parachutes. When we tested them out in class some fell faster than others but they all turned out well.

Goodbye......For Now
So that’s all that’s been happening in 6th class and if you enjoyed our blog make sure to read it every month and we  will see you next time.
